It was announced the payment of the 300 Baht tourism fee for foreign visitors would be postponed.

Because payment methods have not yet been finalized, the collection of a tourism fee from foreign visitors will be postponed by at least two months from the anticipated date of April 1st.

Given the industry's slow recovery from the epidemic, tourism operators decried the collection of the 300-baht tax as being unnecessary.

The National Tourist Policy Committee met recently, and according to a Tourism and Sports spokesperson, recommended the establishment of a tourism fund from the fees collected.
Proposing the policy to the cabinet is the next step in the process. Within 90 days of getting approval, the details of the fee collection must be published in the Royal Gazette.


However, implementation is likely to be postponed beyond April, as airlines, who will most likely be in charge of collecting the fee, have requested at least three months to prepare. However  Collection techniques for persons entering the nation overland must still be finalized by the ministry.



Representatives from the Budget Bureau, Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council, the business sector, and other related state institutions will serve on the fund committee, which will be chaired by the permanent tourism secretary.



About 20 per cent of the 300-baht cost will go toward insurance coverage for international tourists, with the rest (50% per cent) going toward tourism product development in Thailand.



 A spokesperson for the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), stated the country's tourism supply, both in terms of products and services, still needs a lot of work to add value, particularly from local products and festivals that can create income more evenly.


At a meeting between, the TAT and two state agencies — the Creative Economy Agency (CEA) and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau — signed a memorandum of understanding to support the creative industry through festivals and tourism areas that can be promoted as soft power and as part of the local creative economy.



Food, movies, fashion, festivals, fights (traditional boxing), music, museums, etc was also claimed, it should enhance tourism revenue by 20 percent as a result of the collaboration.



The value of Thailand's creative industry is predicted to exceed 1.5 trillion baht this year, up 3.57 percent from last year, according to the, executive director of the CEA.



It is  believed that an annual festival like Design Week in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Khon Kaen, which is a prominent event that takes place in over 150 locations throughout the world, might be crucial in helping to build recognition.



750 million baht is estimated to be raised at this year's Bangkok Design Week, which takes place this month.

Health Insurance WARNING

Before taking out health insurance it is important you understand exactly what is and isn’t covered in your policy.
Much of this of course depends on the type of cover you take out. You should always choose a policy that offers the best possible coverage to suit your needs.
However, there are some things that are not typically covered on most policies, regardless of what policy or provider you choose.

While there can be exceptions in certain circumstances, below are some of things you can expect will not be covered under your health insurance plan.

Pre existing conditions
Health insurance normally does not cover pre-existing conditions.

Pre-existing conditions or other conditions related to them will normally be excluded from a policy.

This is because health insurance is designed to provide cover for new conditions that may occur only after the policy has started.

Chronic conditions

A condition that is classed as ongoing, requires long term treatment or has no cure will not typically be covered by health insurance.

This could be a condition such as kidney dialysis or reoccurring heart or lung problems.

Coverage is not provided for chronic conditions as health insurance is designed to cover you for treatment to get you back to your original health.

If you have a chronic condition which will affect you long term, typically coverage is not possible.

Dental work
Normally, dental work will not be covered under a regular policy. However, insurance companies will often offer a separate policy or add on that can cover dental work.

This may enable you to claim back a certain amount each year for things like check ups, fillings or appointments.



Cosmetic surgery



Because cosmetic surgeries or ‘elective treatments’ are considered to be lifestyle treatments, they are not covered by health insurance policies.



Cosmetic treatments are things such as botox, breast implants, liposuction, face lifts or anything aesthetic.



However, reconstructive surgeries following an accident, for example, could be covered under a health insurance policy.



Other exclusions



There are other conditions that most insurance companies are unlikely to cover. Some of these include:



AIDS/HIV
Allergies or allergic disorders
Birth control, conception, sexual problems and gender re-assignment
Deafness
Dental/oral treatment
Dialysis
Treatment to correct eyesight (e.g. long or short)
Intensive care (other than in some specific circumstances)
Learning difficulties and developmental problems
Pregnancy and childbirth
Professional sports injuries
Puberty, menopause and ageing
Sleep problems and disorders
Speech disorders


As with all of the above mentioned, always check the terms and conditions of your policy so you know exactly what is and is not covered.
